Teh Uesnet
For those not familiar with Usenet, it is an old system very similar
in purpose to a web board, but works in a similar way to e-mail. At least, that's *my*
perception of it. The fact of the matter is, each user has their own Usenet client which
is used to read and post in Newsgroups.
If you are interested in participating in this vast community of
entertainment and flow of information, ask your Internet Service provider for details of
your News Service and download/purchase one of the fantastic news clients available
If you are new to Usenet, please make sure you read the following
newsgroups
What can I expect from Usenet?
Information - people share interests, it is extremely likely that on
Usenet you will find a newsgroup relevant to your interests, favourite singer, and other topics
of interest to you. In these newsgroups you will be able to discuss these interests with other
like-minded individuals
Kooks - sometimes people forget the nature of the medium; Usenet is
simply words on screen. These people tend to take matters a little too seriously, and often take
the role of "policing" Usenet into their own hands. They often persue this career, by posting
rants and whining, threats of violence, and 'NetKKKop' users they disagree with. This fine specimen
of entertainment can be observed at alt.usenet.kooks
Help - have you bought something that doesn't work, do you have computer
problems, do you suffer from a condition or long-term illness. The story is simple, you're probably
not alone; serveral "support" groups exist for people with diabetes and other illnesses, and often
groups for computer hardware and software are available to discuss issues and recent developments.
